Closed cemetery: no new plots
Regular burial operations in the four former Plötzensee cemeteries ended on 31 December 1970. The last plot rights expired in 1995. No new coffin, urn, row or selected plots are available here.
What remains today
Conversion of the former cemetery grounds into a park began in 2001. Graves of victims of war and tyranny were consolidated on the former New St Paul Cemetery in 2014. The memorial plaque records more than 4,400 victims in individual and communal graves.
The present map covers this war-grave area. Its boundary does not represent the entire historic complex of four cemeteries.
Researching a former grave
Ask about surviving burial registers or the responsible archive. Provide the full name, known life and burial dates, and the former cemetery section if known: Neuer Johannisfriedhof, Kaiser-Friedrich, Heiland or Neuer St Paul.
Mitte cemetery administration can be reached on 030 9018 44199 or friedhof@ba-mitte.berlin.de. A historical burial entry does not mean that the grave still survives.
